Current Project:

The Book of Brazzmatazz

An interactive animation project

Character design, concept art & storyboarding in a steampunk galaxy far away. This is how it works:

The story, or the scenario itself is an interaction between the writer and the illustrator. The writer based his storytelling on the existing musicians, their costumes, their instruments, their character traits. The concept illustrations and storyboard panels are an interpretation of that story, but in some cases the story has been adapted inspired by the graphic storytellling.

At this stage we are experimenting, looking for funds and finding side products such as band merch. We are currently a team of 3 stakeholders:

  • Sanne Werkers - The band manager with the crazy ideas
  • Nick De Meersman -  The script writer
  • Maarten Vanhoucke - The concept-artist, designer, illustrator and animator

The limits of the budget expands as much as possible by efficiëntly exploring different paths and workflows.

The need for fast solutions, and less time-consuming techniques while upholding a certain amount of quality at the same time is a challenge accepted.

Interactivity and 2D to 3D

The possibilities of interactive experiences are growing each day. The main goal here is to present a new kind of immersive e-reading experience, and experiment with new possibilities within the Adobe CS combined with Webflow & Lottie.

An animatic experiment with a voice-over and some of the first drafts...

Maarten or Houckov for that matter is a genius illustrator and storyteller with great technical skills. Simply the best choice for your story, your design, your graphics and illustrations.

Stein Nuyts - Zodus Technics

a Graphic Storyteller

As an experienced visual content creator I am able to apply and combine my many skills in order to deliver strong visual messages both in print and digital. Most, if not all of my work consists of applied arts. I will look for, find, and create solutions that graphically tell your story or deliver your message to your audience in the most accurate (and if needed original) way, combining your input as a client with my creative skills and experience.

As a graphic designer I am able to create and develop your brand identity, as well as follow an existing brand guide. I consider myself a fast and reliable designer. I love and respect deadlines, and I am actively looking for new challenges to overcome. I love working together in a team or team up with other creative teams. I am also highly skilled in the technical aspects of design, UX, print and digital publishing.

As an illustrator, I want me and my audience to enjoy the wild adventurous act of drawing with a purpose. I love storytelling, and I love looking at the world in different ways, and making an audience tune in to your story. My illustrations are fully ‘applied art’ meaning that, as a visual expert, I am not concerned with the expression of my personal feelings, yet only with the message that needs to be delivered or the story that needs to be told.

As a videographer I can draw storyboards, write scripts and briefings. Recording and editing video is part of my skill-set. I can do a bit of motion design, I know how to animate, I can handle cameras and sound equipment both in the studio or on the set.

As a teacher, I love to pass on my skills and my enthusiasm for applied visual arts to students of any age or background. I love the challenge of finding creativity of any kind where there was thought to be none. Also I am convinced that learning is a life-long two-way process.
